THE SCOPE
Visualize a high-impact brand identity system for a burgeoning boat reseller, targeting a high-energy, West Coast audience by leveraging the nostalgic grit of 1990s NBA aesthetics.
THE SYSTEM
I constructed a scalable brand architecture rooted in research of the visuals of 90s-era athletics and high-saturation colors. Key design features include:
Energetic Motifs: Integrated "wake" and water-drop motifs create a sense of forward motion. In the primary mark, a custom boat hull illustration with SoCal mountains and a setting sun reflected in the windshield grounds the brand in West Coast culture.
Bold Structure: Heavy offset shadows and "block" lettering techniques, mirrored from 1990s NBA identities, juxtapose the natural curves of wave inspired custom typography
Technical Precision: Developed in Adobe Illustrator, the system avoids vintage gradients in favor of bold geometry and a saturated palette. This ensures brand integrity, even when scaling from digital social icons to large-format vinyl decals.
THE SOLUTION
The resulting identity successfully transitioned "Crazy Mike’s" into a branded professional entity. The visual energy of the brand established immediate trust with a niche, bold buyer base and created market distinction amongst traditionally "minimalist" boat-selling brands, providing the business with a professional edge that resonates.
